Rovaniemi
The leading development themes of InnoCity Rovaniemi are Arctic tourism and wellbeing services of the future and management of distances.
The development themes have been selected in cooperation with the region’s higher education institutions and business experts. Service design, internationality, new business ecosystems and development platforms and strengthening expertise are cross-sectional development activities.
The goal is to make Lapland’s tourism companies into leading digital marketing experts and to make a significant part of tourism centres carbon neutral by 2027. Another goal is granting a Sustainable Travel Finland certificate for Rovaniemi and as many other Lapland tourist centres as possible.
Furthermore, in 2023, Rovaniemi will finish and start implementing a sustainable development programme for tourism. The programme will not only account for ecological, social and cultural sustainability, but also consider the needs of residents and the year-round development of tourism. Organisations involved in innovation have already begun working on international projects in tourism.
Future wellbeing services will offer new business opportunities in an operating environment characterised by Arctic conditions, long distances, an ageing population and low population density.
The research and innovation operations related to wellbeing services, especially in the field of physical activity and sports, are already at an international level. The aim of wellbeing services and distance management is to promote solutions that support health, functioning and wellbeing in long-distance communities. This will be achieved by utilising technology-based service solutions (remote care and rehabilitation) and the opportunities provided by social innovations.
