The leading development themes of InnoCity Kuopio are health and wellbeing technology and water expertise.
Both areas of focus emphasise intelligent digital solutions that utilise data analytics and artificial intelligence, for example.
The core is one of Finland’s most versatile urban development areas, Savilahti. By 2030, the amount invested in the region’s development is estimated to be EUR 1.5–2 billion. Kuopio is creating and developing a new district, but also building an internationally renowned centre of top-level expertise.
Health and wellbeing technology
The vision for the health and wellbeing technologies theme is: “Savilahti, Kuopio – Europe’s Most Attractive Learning and Innovation Environment for Smart Health and Wellbeing Solutions”. The aim is to direct the changing healthcare environment towards sustainable and preventive solutions and to create significant business by developing smart solutions. The start-up phase is carried out by Kuopio Health.
Water expertise
The water expertise ecosystem agreement creates the conditions that will allow the Savilahti region to develop into Finland’s most attractive water experimentation and innovation environment by 2027. Activities and operations will focus on intelligent water management solutions, intelligent reclamation processes and zero emission facilities for water treatment. The project is carried out by Savonia University of Applied Sciences the Kuopio Water Cluster, which Savonia UAS coordinates.
